Opening of Empire State Building, 1 May 1931
May is a month overflowing with appreciation. With all the incredible 21st century architecture that we are exposed to, it is crucial to take a step back and remember the revolutionary masterpieces that were accomplished with much more difficulty than that of today. The Empire State Building was opened on 1 May, 88 years ago, titled ‘The World’s Tallest Building’ at the time, and ‘The First Building To Reach 100 Floors’, with 102 floors in total. Although it is no longer the world’s tallest building, it accomplished the impossible for its time, built an icon for the American nation and inspired architects to push their limits for generations to come.
